Professor Andrew CalderProfessor Andrew Calder [www] retired at the end of July 2009 after 23 years as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Edinburgh and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.

He also retires as Head of the Division of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences but will continue to contribute to the University as Honorary Assistant Principal for Reproductive Health.

On the 1st December 2009 we are holding a one-day symposium to mark Professor Calder's retirement and his significant contributions to the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a clinician, teacher and researcher.

His research agenda has focused mainly on high risk obstetrics and the role of inflammatory mediators in normal and preterm parturition.
